Abstract

Background: Non-hemorrhagic stroke is a blood vessel disorder that causes ischemia and hypoxia in the brain. Usually caused by several diseases and occurs suddenly. Symptoms that arise are weakness, headaches, loss of consciousness and communication disorders such as slurred speech, difficulty speaking, pronouncing words, aphasia and stomach ache. If this situation is not addressed immediately it can cause stress and depression. Objective: To determine the effect of "AIUEO" speech therapy to improve speech abilities after non-helmorrhagic strokes that experience communication disorders. Method: Case study research uses non-random techniques (accidental sampling), namely research found directly). Therapy is carried out 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 7 days. Evaluation of actions using nursing outcomes and the derby functional communication scale.  Results: Evaluation of nursing outcomes, communication levels such as speaking, listening, expression and eye contact increased. Aphasia, sluggishness, and dysatria decrease. Behavioral responses and communication comprehension improve. The final evaluation of the derby functional communication scale for both subjects experienced improvements in communication, expression, being able to control anger, puffing out both cheeks, maintaining eye contact and sticking out the tongue.  Conclusion: AIUEO therapy research can be carried out as a non-pharmacological technique to improve communication in stroke with speech disorders.
