Abstract

A stroke is an acute brain condition that is a leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. The prevalence of stroke is increasing significantly, especially in low and middle-income countries. Family caregivers' lack of knowledge about stroke care is a major challenge in managing this disease. The aim of this research is to explore self-care education efforts to address the family's deficit of knowledge in caring for stroke patients. The research method used a case study with two family respondents who were caring for stroke patients at home. The results of the study, after providing self-care education on stroke, showed that the knowledge levels of both respondents improved, with an average score ranging from 4 (moderate improvement) to 5 (improved), indicating an increase in understanding after implementing health education on stroke patient care at home through a self-care education approach. Therefore, self-care education can be an effort to address the family's deficit of knowledge about stroke.
