Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose levels. High blood glucose levels are often directly proportional to the incidence of complications from various organ systems, as well as increased disease morbidity and mortality rates. The complexity of this disease can be managed through pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches, however the use of drugs to control blood glucose levels contributes to quite high side effects. Soursop leaf boiled water is an alternative complementary therapy that can be used to control blood glucose levels in DM sufferers, especially type II. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of soursop leaf decoction on the stability of blood glucose levels in type II DM sufferers. Method: This research is a case study of two people suffering from type II DM in Lowungu Village, Bejen District. Each case study subject was given intervention in the form of drinking boiled water from soursop leaves for 7 consecutive days. Results: The research showed that the blood glucose levels of the first case study subjects decreased, but the opposite was true for the second case study subjects. Conclusion: consumption of soursop leaf boiled water has the potential to stabilize blood glucose in diabetes mellitus sufferers.   Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, blood glucose, soursop leaves.
