SIMPLE INHALATION THERAPY USING EUCALYPTUS OIL TO OVERCOME THE INEFECTIVENESS OF RESPIRATORY CLEANING IN CHILDREN WITH ACUTE RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS (ARI)

Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is an acute infectious disease that causes the most morbidity and death in children, especially in developing countries, including Indonesia. ARI is an infectious disease that attacks the respiratory tract, from the nose to the alveoli, along with related tissues such as the sinuses, middle ear cavity and pleura. Viruses or bacteria cause invasion of the upper respiratory tract into excess germs, then an inflammatory process occurs and finally there is a buildup of secretions in the bronchi. As a result, nursing problems arise, namely ineffective airway clearance. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of implementing a simple inhalation therapy intervention with eucalyptus oil to overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance in ARI patients. Method: The research method uses case studies. In this study, there were 2 patients aged 6 years who suffered from ARI according to the inclusion criteria. Results: The results of the analysis showed that after the intervention was carried out for 3 days, every morning and evening, the patient's airway clearance was again effective as evidenced by the absence of accumulation of secretions, coughing, and reduced additional breath sounds, crackles. Conclusion: Providing simple inhalation therapy with eucalyptus oil is effective in overcoming the problem of ineffective airway clearance in children suffering from ARI.References
