FACILITATE EARLY BREASTFEEDING INITIATION IN NEWBORN BABIES TO SUPPORT EFFECTIVE BREASTFEEDING SUCCESS

Abstract

Background: Early initiation of breastfeeding (IMD) is the process of allowing a baby to breastfeed on its own immediately after birth. Babies who receive IMD early will provide stimulation to the mother's nipples thereby increasing the chances of success in the breastfeeding process from an early age. The impact of not having IMD can result in failure to breastfeed where the baby does not receive colostrum and this inhibits the production of breast milk. Purpose: This research aims to support the success of effective breastfeeding by facilitating the implementation of early initiation of breastfeeding in newborns which is useful for facilitating the release of breast milk. Method: Techniques for collecting research data using participant observation, action and interviews. The research subjects were normal post-partum mothers with a baby weighing ≥ 2500 grams. The data presented in this research is in the form of a table and is equipped with a narrative presentation. Results: Research conducted in the Kranggan community health center area shows that support for the implementation of early breastfeeding initiation in supporting successful breastfeeding is effective. Breastfeeding status has increased as evidenced by the baby's proper attachment to the mother's breast, the baby's suction is strong, the mother's self-confidence, adequate milk supply, and the baby is not fussy. Conclusion: There is an influence of implementing early breastfeeding initiation measures immediately after the baby is born on the success of effective breastfeeding.
