RED RICE (Oriza Nivara) FOR CONTROLLING INSTABILITY OF BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

Abstract

Background : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease that indicates the body's tendency to be unable to produce insulin, the hormone that produces blood sugar, or due to a lack of supply of the insulin it produces. Thus, this causes glucose levels to increase, which means that blood glucose levels reach an increase or decrease that is far from the normal average, resulting in hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. Stability of blood sugar levels is a health problem that can be overcome by nutritional counseling. The nutritional counseling action that can be given is by instructing you to eat 3 times a day for a week using brown rice (Oriza Nivara). This is because the content of brown rice is quite high, including fat, minerals, carbohydrates, protein, fiber and flavoid compounds which are useful for anti-diabetes, so it is appropriate to use to reduce blood glucose levels because it can be a step to prevent resistance and increase insulin secretion. Purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of giving brown rice in reducing blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus sufferers. Research methods, researchers with a case study approach. Sampling was carried out randomly in a community by filling out a questionnaire to obtain respondents who met the case study inclusion criteria. The respondent's inclusion criteria were someone with a blood sugar level> 200 mg/dL. Results of the case study showed a decrease in blood glucose levels in Ny.I, which was originally 361 mg/dL to 262 mgdL. And in Ny.S, which was originally 388mg/dL, it became 227mg/dL. In conclusion, giving red rice rice can control the instability of blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus.
